Light Housings for LED Projection Systems
NK Projects is a UK company founded on a passion for light, creating aesthetic and technical solutions for dynamic external and architectural light based installations. In 2011, NK Projects commissioned Diamond Engineering to design and manufacture a new light housing.
The Problem
The project had to be completed within a strict timescale, and there were environmental issues to contend with. A principal design consideration was durability: NK Projects's projection systems are routinely exposed to the elements for prolonged periods, and some installations have to contend with a harsh and corrosive coastal environment.
The Solution
Diamond Engineering designed and manufactured a low-weight, hard anodized machined aluminium housing capable of resisting corrosion and dissipating heat rapidly. Effective heatsink design allowed for optimal heat transfer within a defined volume. Tight control of machining tolerances took into account the additional depth of surface hard anodizing added to the housing’s components, eliminating the potential for fit issues during final projection system assembly.
The Outcome
- A low-weight housing that resists corrosion in harsh environments.
- No fit issues in final assembly.
- On-schedule completion of design and manufacture – straight from the drawing board and into batch production of a successful end product – ensured that Jalarka won a time-critical order for a lucrative installation.
